Terms of Use
Draft text, pending legal review. Last updated 27 October 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and Ivor Davies, New Zealand, who runs Chord-A-Licious ("we", "the Service"). Contact: ivordavies@outlook.co.nz.
1. What the Service does
Chord-A-Licious estimates the chords, key and tempo of audio you supply or play, and shows them as a chord grid. Results are automatic estimates and can be wrong. Do not rely on them where an error would cause you loss.
2. Accounts
You must be 16 or over, or have a parent or guardian's permission. Give a real e-mail address and keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account. One free trial is allowed per person.
3. Free and Pro
Free has the limits shown on our pricing page. Pro is offered in two plans. Annual: one payment of NZ$20 (US$20, £20 or €20 where you choose those currencies) for one year of Pro. Monthly: NZ$2 a month (US$2, £2 or €2) for 12 months, after which the payments stop by themselves. Customers elsewhere pay the local-currency equivalent of NZ$2 or NZ$20, converted by Stripe at checkout. Neither plan renews automatically. We e-mail you about a week before your Pro time ends. If you do nothing, your account moves to Free and your saved favourites stay stored.
School and promo codes give Pro for the period stated on the code (for example one year). Each account may use one code, and codes may be limited in use or have an expiry date. A code has no cash value.
4. Payment, cancelling and refunds
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. You can cancel at any time from your account page. Annual plan: the unused part of the year is refunded to your card pro-rata by the day, and Pro ends when you cancel. Monthly plan: no further payments are taken and Pro stays on until the end of the period you have already paid for; payments already made are not refunded. If something goes wrong with a payment, write to us and we will put it right. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under New Zealand consumer law.
5. Your responsibility for the music you analyse
- You choose every song, recording or link you analyse. You alone are responsible for making sure you have the right to use it that way, including any copyright in the recording and in the composition.
- You will use the Service only for private, personal purposes such as learning, practice and study, unless you hold the necessary permission.
- Chord-A-Licious does not supply, host, stream or sell any commercial music, does not check whether you have the right to use a song, and does not endorse any infringement.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, you agree that Chord-A-Licious, its owner and developers are not responsible for any copyright, licence or terms-of-service breach arising from what you choose to analyse. You agree to compensate us for loss or claims (including reasonable legal costs) that result from your breach of this clause.
- Where you play audio from another service (for example YouTube or Spotify) you must also follow that service's terms.
6. What we keep
We keep your account details, your favourites, and a shared analysis (chords, tempo, key, title and artist) of songs listened to through a link, so the next person gets the result faster. We do not store lyrics in the shared analysis. A music file you load yourself is kept briefly so it can play back, and longer only if you save it to your favourites. See the Privacy Policy.
7. Rules
You must not copy, scrape or mirror the Service or its pages; reverse engineer or extract its analysis engine; resell, sub-license or white-label it; use bots or automation; share an account; get around trial, Free or Pro limits; upload unlawful content; or overload or attack the Service.
8. Our intellectual property
The Service, its code, design, text, images, logo and name are owned by Ivor Davies and protected by copyright and trade mark law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose while your account is active. All other rights are reserved. Song titles, artwork and lyrics belong to their owners.
9. Takedown requests
If you own rights in a song and want its shared analysis removed, e-mail ivordavies@outlook.co.nz with the song link or title and your details. We will act promptly and may block that song from being saved again.
10. Availability and our liability
The Service is provided as it is, and may be interrupted. Subject to rights you have under law that cannot be excluded: we give no warranty about the accuracy of chords, keys, tempos or lyrics; we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit or loss of data; and our total liability to you for anything relating to the Service is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you use the Service for business purposes, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply to that use.
11. Suspension and ending
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, with a refund of unused Pro time unless the breach was serious. You can delete your account at any time from your account page.
12. Changes and law
We may update these terms and will tell you before material changes apply. New Zealand law applies and New Zealand courts have jurisdiction, except where your consumer law gives you a different right.
