Privacy Policy
Draft text, pending legal review. Last updated 27 October 2026.
Chord-A-Licious is run by Ivor Davies in New Zealand. We follow the Privacy Act 2020. Questions or requests: ivordavies@outlook.co.nz.
What we collect and why
- Your e-mail address and a scrambled form of your password, to run your account, confirm it is yours, and send you the messages described below. We cannot see your password.
- Your sign-up network address and a device cookie, to apply the one-free-trial rule and to protect the Service from abuse. For the trial rule we keep only anonymous, one-way codes of your e-mail, device and network address. Those codes are kept after account deletion so a trial cannot be repeated.
- Your favourites (chords, title, artist, artwork link and, if you saved a file you loaded, a copy of that audio), so they are there next time.
- Sign-in sessions, kept for 30 days, so you stay logged in.
- Payment records (date, amount, currency, and which plan), and any school or promo code you use. Card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us.
- Technical logs and error reports from your browser (browser type, an anonymous code from your network address, the song title if an error happened), to find and fix faults.
- Shared analyses of songs listened to through a link (chords, tempo, key, title, artist). They are not linked to you.
What we do not do
We do not record or keep the sound of songs you listen to from a tab, or that your microphone hears to recognise a song. We do not sell your data or show advertising.
E-mails we send
Confirmation and password-reset messages, a note when your password changes, and a reminder before your free 30 days or Pro time ends. We do not send marketing e-mail.
Who else handles your data
Stripe (payments), our e-mail sending service, and our hosting provider. These may store data outside New Zealand. YouTube and Spotify run their own players inside the page under their own privacy policies.
Your rights
You can see and correct the information we hold about you, and delete your account and favourites from the account page at any time. Write to us for anything else. If you think we have mishandled your information you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).
Security
Passwords are stored with a slow one-way scheme, sign-in cookies are protected, and access to account data is limited to the owner. If a breach is likely to cause serious harm we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
